Learning a language involves taking on great challenges but also making the process fun. Reading a book in another language gives us the opportunity to expand our vocabulary while entertaining ourselves with a good story. A Study in Scarlet: English French Edition is a book that I absolutely recommend to learn a language in a didactic and entertaining way. Reading both texts at the same time in case you have any doubts regarding the translation allows you to easily incorporate our process of learning new words and understanding phrases that would otherwise be complicated. It’s an excellent book!

Scarlet is a timeless story that mystery readers love to re-read time after time. Now, we get to practice our language skills as we join Sherlock and his sidekick (Dr Watson). As I re-read this novel, I reverted to my French language skills to see what I could add to my fluency. Having both English and French side by side allowed me to refresh my French at my own pace. No instructor was telling me to speed up. The enjoyment of reading a classic and improving my French was a great benefit, and it was fun. I highly recommend it to those who want to improve their French and English.

It is a fast and easy read with great translation.
I guess John Loehr is the one who translated this?
The chapters are well scripted for each different part to enhance the understanding.

this book however is unique because it uses the well-known story about Sherlock Homes.
I have been a fan of Sherlock Homes since young, but when I read it again after 15 years, it is even more fun.

I’m a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, and I always love finding new ways to experience the stories. This dual-language edition of A Study in Scarlet definitely scratched that itch for me! It’s got the classic Sherlock Holmes adventure we all know and love, but with the added bonus of the French text right next to it.
Here’s the thing: even if your French is a little rusty (like mine!), this is still a fun read. It’s a great way to brush up on your skills, or just to peek into how some of the famous lines translate. Plus, it gives you a whole new appreciation for Doyle’s writing.
