Now THIS guy knows how to do a side-by-side translation. I got four of this authors books and am very much enjoying them all. The text lines up nicely, and every time the spanish and english drift too far from one another on the page there is a gap to sync them back up. This is absolutely necessary for a side-by-side language book.
As for learning, I am a B2 level and can’t go two sentences without learning something new lol it is awesome. Very very well made books.
Just know that the author learned “spain spanish”, not latin american, but it won’t be a problem. There are not TOO many spain-only references. A few ‘vosotros’ here and there but yeah, I actually prefer learning all the forms of spanish side by side, so no worries for me. Just a heads up to people so you aren’t caught off guard.

I’ve studied languages off and on for years using flash cards or various apps. This book has been a great compliment to my learning strategy.
Having English and Spanish right next to each other has been immensely helpful to better understand the context and for me, the grammar, more clearly.
I’m a big fan of this learning style and have already improved my understanding of Spanish significantly.

Wonderfully written book. The translation of English and Spanish was lines up nicely. It was extremely helpful, since I’ve been working on learning Spanish. I assignment enjoyed the story of Watson and Sherlock. This was an amazing book to read.

I am a Sherlock Holmes nut having owned the “Complete Sherlock Holmes” published by Doubleday since forever and having read the four novels and 56 short stories many, many times. In my mind it is some of the best literature on the planet. I am also a lifelong learner and practitioner of Spanish and have read (listened to) many of the stories/novels in Spanish as well. But no matter how good my Spanish is I occasionally have to consult a translation in a dictionary or the English version of the book to fully understand the passage.
And that is where this wonderful book comes in. With the English and the Spanish side by side, a mere glance tells me what I need to know and I can go on reading without stopping to look things up. It makes the experience much more enjoyable – and as far as I can tell the translations are excellent. So, all in all, an great idea that was rendered very well.
